For the last 25 years, I’ve been an IT consultant in corporate America. In a nutshell, I have spent most of my adult life sitting in a cubicle in front of a computer screen talking to computers in their own special languages.
While this career has been lucrative, allowed me to travel the world and live in beautiful places like Atlanta, Miami, and Seattle, the consulting world has an inherent flaw. In order to make the most money, I had to move every few years to a new place, because in the exciting world of consulting, contracts begin and end. As a hired gun, I moved to the next job every 3 to 5 years on average. While moving to new places was exciting when I was in my 20′s, in my 40′s not so much. I needed a change. I needed to have the great income without the hassle of packing and moving to the next city. I needed my own business.
I’ve always wanted to own a business. In 1995, I bought a printing franchise called Sir Speedy. Eighteen months and a $150K decrease in my bank account later, I realized that I was working more hours in this business than I had ever worked in my consulting practice. I also realized that a brick and mortor business was not for me. Fortunately, I was able to sell the business. It taught me a valuable lesson, I needed a way to make money that didn’t require so much of my time. I needed to find something I enjoyed doing. One day while on vacation in Hawaii, I had an epiphany, a moment where it clicked for me what I needed to do.

Fast forward to April 2010. I had just finished a book called “Money and the Law of Attraction” . The premise of the book is that we create our life experience and the amount of money that flows into that experience is based on our thoughts. What we focus on, we attract into our lives. This concept resonated with me, because I had experienced it many times in my life without realizing it. So I focused on having a business that created multiple sources of income and provided a hassle free lifestyle.
Astonishingly, not too long after that, I got an email from a guy who had a few years earlier talked to me about a note business he was involved in. In his email he basically told me that he had discovered a business opportunity that I should look into. I learned that it was a network marketing business. The really crazy part was that the business is exactly what I have a passion for and it satisfied my muliple sources of residual income requirement! The saying “find something you enjoy doing and you will never work another day in your life” was the perfect phrase for me in this business. The law of attraction thing really works!
While I knew that this type of business model typically required that I ask family, friends and eventually strangers to go into business with me, that idea didn’t not fit my personality. Plus most people failed at network marketing who tried it that way. I needed to figure out a way to do grow my business without asking my friends and family to go in with me.
I read articles about how billionaires Warren Buffet and Donald Trump had both invested in network marketing companies. I also noticed that there were regular people, like myself, who had succeeded in network marketing. I decided to be one of them. I just needed to find out what those successful people were doing and duplicate it.
Still using the concepts I had learned in the “law of attraction” book, I started searching the internet and found a group of successful mentors who used a concept called attraction marketing! It was like the universe was showing me the way. Amazingly this concept would allow me to build my business by attracting other like minded business people using the internet and teaching them how to market online. And it didn’t require begging family and friends or specialized computer knowledge. Using the internet, I am creating a worldwide business from the comfort of my home. I started part-time so that I could still pay my bills while growing my residual income to an amount large enough to replace and exceed my six figure a year consulting income.
While I’ve only been doing this a few hours every week for a couple of months, I’ve already had over 95 people visit my site. So far 10 people have opted into my newsletter. And that number is getting larger every day. My goal is to have 100 leads per day. And with the knowledge and business model I’m following, the future is bright!
I’m telling my story to show that if I can do it, you can too. It does not take a computer mind, just the ability to take action and never quit until you have reach your goal.
